Frequently Asked Questions
How to calculate GST from total amount?
Use “Remove GST” mode. Enter the total (GST-inclusive) amount and select the GST rate. The formula is: Base Amount = Total Amount × 100 / (100 + GST%). For example, removing 18% GST from ₹1,180 gives base amount ₹1,000 and GST ₹180.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
For transactions within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For inter-state transactions, the full amount is charged as IGST (Integrated GST). The total tax rate remains the same.
Which GST rate applies to my product or service?
5% GST applies to essential items, 12% to standard goods, 18% to most services and products, and 28% to luxury items and demerit goods. Check the HSN/SAC code for your specific product or service on the official GST portal.
